Whether for relaxed training runs, hikes, city tours, or everyday errands – running or comfort shoes are the most important piece of equipment for all the routes you want to experience on foot. Our goal is prevention through technology. Our focus is on axial loading, which allows us to prevent discomfort from the outset. We rely on a combination of high-quality, low-emission materials, high-tech processes, and handcrafted manufacturing. The result: shoes in which your feet feel at home – truly, Home of the Feet.

With over 45 years of experience in our own running shoe stores, we developed our own shoe design department in the Hamburg metropolitan region. In Düssin/Mecklenburg, we design technology, shapes, cuts, and our many unique features to the highest standards and German regulations. The quality and purity of the materials are of paramount importance to us.

We manufacture in Germany and now also with top specialists worldwide. The Classic and Derby series models, featuring our special milling technology, could still be labeled "Made in Germany" due to the crucial quality of the midsole, as the midsole and outsole are made at our facility in Düssin, and the insole in Rastede near Oldenburg. However, since different regulations apply to each shoe model and each country supplied, we are now discontinuing the "Made in Germany" label – even for shoes that were originally manufactured here. Therefore, our shoes now bear the inscription "Lung Germany." Additionally, we have technologically advanced shoes manufactured by specialists worldwide, as these specialists are not available in Germany.

In Mecklenburg, very close to Hamburg, we found an ideal and historic building for the development of technical functional footwear. Here, we can develop truly special shoes with selected specialists. This makes it possible to:

  • every step under our control
  • a large network of industrial designers, universities and specialist companies
  • ongoing technical development of the products

Company Profile

  • In 1976, Ulf Lunge was introduced to running by his father and completed his first marathon in the Meiendorf Forest/Hamburg in the same year.
  • In 1979, as an 18-year-old high school student, he opened the "Run Store" in 28 square meters at Bargteheider Str. 136 in Hamburg.
  • In 1983, Ulf Lunge became Hamburg Marathon Champion in Bremen with a time of 2:23:17, which he confirmed to the second half a year later at the Berlin Marathon.
  • This year he is moving his business to Lämmersieth 1 in Barmbek and renaming it "Ulf Lunge's Running Shop".
  • In 1986, his brother Lars Lunge, five years his junior, joined the company. Before that, he completed an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic at Philips.
  • In 1988, they were the first specialist retailer for running shoes to introduce treadmill analysis.
  • In 1989, they had their own running shoes produced in Korea. The three models "Hanseat," "Cyrus," and "Elite" were created. Production was quickly discontinued. Ulf and Lars Lunge explained that the products didn't meet their expectations.
  • In 1993, Ulf and Lars founded Lunge Lauf- und Sportschuhe GmbH and opened further branches in Hamburg and Berlin.
  • In 2005, Lunge Lauf- und Sportschuhe GmbH acquired the historic cattle barn in Düssin/Mecklenburg. The idea arose to "build beautiful running shoes 'Made in Germany' in this beautiful building," according to Ulf Lunge.
  • Renovation of the building from 2005 to 2008.
  • In 2007, the company began building up its production facilities and product range. Lunge Lauf- und Sportschuhe GmbH received the HASPA Founder's Award in the "Rising Star" category.
  • In 2008, the first 400 running shoe models “C Dur” for men and “a moll” for women from Düssin were sent to the company's own stores and other running retailers.
  • From 2010 onwards, Lunge Lauf- und Sportschuhe GmbH also manufactures vegan comfort shoes, develops further shoe models and expands production.
  • The online shop lunge.com was created for the company's own brand in 2010.
  • In 2017, Lunge Der Laufladen GmbH was founded to operate the running stores.
  • Since 2020, all business processes have been handled digitally and cloud-based. All production data in the factory is processed digitally. The online catalog of the stores has been converted into an online shop at lunge.de.
